We’re embarking on another journey through the universe! As part of their “Five Years/Five Beers” series, we’ve collaborated with Ecliptic Brewing of Portland, Oregon, to celebrate the company’s fifth anniversary. We’re excited to help commemorate Ecliptic’s fifth orbit around the sun with a Juicy IPA, the fourth Cosmic Collaboration release in the series.
Ecliptic Brewing Owner and Brewmaster, John Harris, is no alien to Oregon’s craft beer industry. Harris opened Ecliptic Brewing in 2013, bringing together his two favorite passions; beer and astronomy. “I reached out to Bell’s Founder, Larry Bell, to see if he’d help me commemorate this big anniversary,” Harris said. “I’ve always loved Bell’s beers, and it is such an honor to work together.”
Brewed with two-row, pale and Munich malts, along with Oregon Strata hops and two hops varieties from New Zealand, Galaxy and Taiheke, Juicy IPA’s recipe is out of this world. The hops carry their own stellar flavors but it’s the brewing process that really uncovers the bright flavor. Harris, Bell, and Bell’s Director of Operations, John Mallett, reduced bitterness by adding ice to the whirlpool. Lowering the temperature reveals the hops’ flavor, resulting in a juicy, astronomical IPA with an 8.5% ABV.
We’re thrilled to celebrate another independent brewery and their success. “John Harris is one of the well-recognized, innovative originators of craft brewing,” said Mallett. “He is a true pioneer. The chance to collaborate with him technically on a pushy, hop-driven beer would be fun for any brewer. Compound that with a 30+ year friendship between peers, and it becomes a positively giddy experience. Cheers to beers!”

Ecliptic Brewing Chef Michael Molitor will prepare three courses shared appetizers for attendees. Additionally, attendees can enjoy six beer pairings and signed bottles of the collaboration to bring home!
